Integrative Mental Health Care for Children, Teens, and Young Adults in the Tri-State Area

Accepting New Patients

james samala DNP, APN, PMHNP-BC

Hi I am Dr. James, welcome to my practice, at Samala Integrative Psychiatry. I specialize in helping children and adolescents in navigating the complexities of growing up in today’s world. From academic pressures to social media influences, young people face unique stressors that can impact their mental and emotional health. My passion is to support children, teens, and their families in building healthy coping strategies, improving communication, and fostering resilience.

Whether your child is dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, or behavioral challenges, I work collaboratively to create individualized care plans that meet them where they are. Together, we’ll work through issues such as peer pressure, self-esteem, trauma, or family changes, always aiming for a balanced, healthy emotional life. I believe in a holistic approach, integrating therapeutic techniques with medication management when necessary to help children and teens thrive.

Bringing Together the Services You Need

Autism

ASD affects 1 in 36 children. While no FDA-approved medications target core ASD symptoms, medications can effectively manage co-occurring conditions such as irritability, aggression, depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Over 50% of individuals with ASD also meet the criteria for ADHD, and up to half of children with ADHD show ASD traits. Autism prevalance has increased 317% since 2000.

Trauma

Trauma isn’t just a memory—it’s like a shadow that can follow young people, shaping how they feel, trust, and see the world. Healing means finding ways to bring light to that shadow, so they can feel safe and free again.

.

OCD

People think OCD is just about neatness or being overly clean, but for young people, it can feel like being trapped in a loop of worries and ‘what ifs’ that just won’t go away. It’s like having an invisible bully in your mind that stops you from feeling free and enjoying the things you love.

ADHD

“Think of having ADHD in this way… Having ADHD is like having a powerful race car engine but with brakes that need some work—it makes life exciting, but sometimes hard to control. Learning to steer and use those brakes better can help you go exactly where you want to go.
